Vignette: Isle Royale National Park

A number of years ago, one of Ruth’s sisters brought Ruth’s attention to a series of mystery stories by Nevada Barr, whose novels are generally set in national parks. One of the national park settings was Isle Royale National Park, which is in the same part of the country as the Michigan Upper Peninsula, where Ruth grew up and thus is of interest to her. Barr’s first novel set in this particular park was A Superior Death (and in 2008, incidentally, there was a second, Winter Study). The main character in the national park novels is Anna Pigeon, a park ranger. Nevada Barr was once a park ranger herself.
